FDA Food Code 7-201.11 requires that poisonous or toxic materials — including detergents, sanitizers, lubricants, pesticides, and first-aid supplies — be stored so they cannot contaminate food, equipment, utensils, linens, or single-service articles. A bottle of bleach stored on a shelf above open food containers, or a spray cleaner kept next to cooking oils, creates a direct risk of chemical contamination. Chemical poisoning events in restaurants are often traced to improperly stored or labeled cleaning products. This is a Priority violation because accidental ingestion of cleaning chemicals can cause immediate, serious illness.
